Ranchi:

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has filed a Rs 100 crore libel complaint in Ranchi Civil Court against BJP MP Dr Nishikant Dubey for allegedly injuring his image through social media.

The libel action was brought against Mr. Dubey on August 4.

In the matter with the Member, Twitter Communications India Private Limited and Facebook India Online Services Private Limited were named as Respondents 1 and 2.

Hemant Soren claimed damages in the amount of Rs 100 crores against each of the respondents.

Mr. Dubey attacked Hemant Soren over various topics on social media platforms.

Recently he took to Twitter and accused “Soren of raping and kidnapping a woman in Mumbai in 2013”. Responding to this, while tagging Mr. Dubey, Hemant Soren said he would respond to his allegations through a legal channel.

In the lawsuit, it was said that “since July 27, 2020, Nishikant Dubey has been issuing defamatory statements”, attacking Mr. Soren “maliciously to bring him to public scandal, odium, contempt and hatred and tarnish his reputation “that he even went to the point of posting it on social networks.

Twitter Communications India Private Limited and Facebook India Online Services Private Limited have been named as respondents because they allegedly did not block or remove the publication of such derogatory messages knowing that a complainant is a reputable person, according to the lawsuit.

A brief hearing was held on August 5 and the next hearing will be on August 22.

On August 6, Dr. Nishikant Dubey again took to social media to corner Mr. Soren.

“Mr. Chief Minister, an allegation of rape and kidnapping has been made by a girl in Mumbai and you are filing complaints against me instead of her. Thank you for giving me a chance to fight against a chief minister like Saryu Roy, ”he tweeted in Hindi.
