Patna:

It was a poorly chosen shot by an RJD MP in Bihar, in more than one sense. Shambhu Nath Yadav, who belongs to the opposition party and represents the segment of the Brahmapur assembly in Buxar district, stumbled on the field trying to hit the ball and was also charged, for violating the restrictions in place due to state lockdown.

The incident took place on Sunday while Mr Yadav was in his constituency as a “main guest” at a village-level cricket tournament.

Videos of the MLA missing the ball but being knocked off balance from the cold-blooded shot he attempted have gone viral on social media.

Vishnudev Kumar, head of the Ramdas Rai ke Dera outpost, said on Wednesday “we learned of the existence of the rally, organized without the permission of the local authorities and where the number of people was apparently much higher than what is authorized”.

“An FIR was therefore filed Monday against more than 20 people, including the legislator. Investigations are underway and other actions could follow,” he added.

A fifteen-day statewide lockdown has been tight on Bihar from July 15 following a massive spike in COVID 19 cases.
