The media are among the frontline corona warriors who have played an important role in educating people and mitigating the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Monday.

In his message written on the occasion of the National Press Day, the President also appreciated the Press Council of India (PCI), which regulates the print media, for its safeguard of the independence of the press. .

“I am pleased to hear that the Press Council of India is celebrating National Press Day on November 16 under the theme ‘The Role of Media During COVID-19 and Its Impact on the People’.

“Serving for almost 55 years, PCI has been the watchdog of press independence while striving to ensure quality journalism. Its role is important in the functioning of our democracy,” said Ram Nath Kovind.

The President said that the theme of this year’s National Press Day celebration is the most serious crisis facing the world and India.

“In dealing with the issues surrounding COVID 19, the media has played a very important role in educating people and thus helped to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

“Journalists are among the frontline corona warriors. Through PCI, I express my gratitude to these people, ”said Ram Nath Kovind.

India has so far recorded 88.45,127 cases of COVID-19, while 1,30,070 people have died from the disease, according to the Union’s health ministry.
