Digvijaya Singh was charged with defamation and counterfeiting after tweeting Shivraj Chouhan’s video.

Bhopal:

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh tweeted a tampered video of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, according to the BJP, in which the chief minister is heard to promote the consumption of alcohol. A complaint was made against the head of Congress following a complaint by the BJP.

In their complaint, BJP officials claimed that the clip was part of Mr. Chouhan’s reaction when the Kamal Nath government changed the excise policy to open liquor stores in the state.

The video was shared by Digvijaya Singh’s official Twitter official on Sunday afternoon, and then re-tweeted by 10 others. After the BJP raised protests, the video was removed from Mr. Singh’s Twitter handle.

But the BJP, led by former interior minister Umashankar Gupta, submitted screenshots and other evidence regarding the video, as well as a two-page complaint to the crime scene.

BJP leaders alleged that the Digvijaya Singh deliberately shared the video to damage the image of the chief minister.

Nischal Jharia, a senior crime-fighting officer, said that the cyber-cell’s social media monitoring unit had recorded the FIR that evening against 11 people who retweeted the video and posted derogatory comments. Mr. Singh has been charged with defamation and forgery.

Singh said it was the BJP’s political trick to retaliate for highlighting the cause of the tribes and there should be an investigation into who edited the video.

“The Budhni tribals were tricked into Rs 4.5 crore by agents of Shivraj Singh Chouhan and no FIR was recorded during his tenure,” said Singh. “I wrote to him that if there was no action, I would organize a protest sit-in at his home. It disturbed the BJP,” he added.

Chouhan obtained a fourth post in the highest post after the collapse of the government Kamal Nath, 15 months old, while the top leader Jyoriraditya Scindia passed to the BJP with 22 deputies.
