Maximum temperatures are expected to drop in these states after Friday, the release said.

The IMD issues color-coded warnings based on the intensity of any weather system in ascending order – green, yellow, orange and red.

In 2019, India witnessed 73 heat waves in 23 states, with mercury rising to 50 degrees Celsius and killing dozens of people, according to data shared by the National Disaster Management Authority.
