Spectacular footage showed a group of people trying to get the half-sunken car back to safety.

Palamu (Jharkhand):

A car carrying a newlywed couple with three others fell into a river in the Palamu district of Jharkhand today.

When residents spotted the floating car, some of them jumped into the river to save the occupants of the vehicle from drowning. Spectacular footage of the rescue operation showed a group of people trying to bring the half-sunken car back to safety.

The wedding party was returning to the groom’s village when the car by which they were traveling fell from a bridge and was swept away by the strong current of the Malaise River.

The car was taken about half a kilometer into the river before the villagers could open its windows to safely exit the occupants.

This comes as rain and thunder showers hit the state capital Ranchi and other parts of Jharkhand on Sunday.
