Researchers have designed gloves that prevent any spread of viruses thanks to their special design.

Noida:

Researchers at a private university in Noida, Uttar Pradesh have developed smart devices that sound the alarm when social distancing standards are violated and a user touches their face, in addition to designing gloves that automatically dispense the disinfectant.

The portable devices are affordable and run on battery power, they said, saying they could be effective in tackling the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The social distance alarm device can be worn like a bracelet and warns users if someone approaches within six feet of them, according to researchers at Amity University in Noida.

“It is a convenient, small, portable, inexpensive, low-power, battery-operated smart electronic device. This electronic device can maintain the social distance of 6 feet between two people by emitting a signal through a buzzer and a light alarm. It warns both people, with the same device, if they violate social distancing conditions, ”the university said.

“The handheld device comes in the form of a bracelet and can be worn as a wristwatch that will work even if a group of people are approaching from multiple directions. Each unit of this invention will cost around Rs. 400-500. and the rechargeable battery option can also be easily done in these devices, ”he said.

The research group has been working for about three months under the leadership of V K Jain, a distinguished scientist and professor at the University’s Institute for Research and Advanced Studies (Materials and Devices).

The group also developed a “locket” that informs the user every time they touch their face, a common habit, scientists say, that spreads the virus.

“This portable, small, portable, low cost, low power consumption electronic device will help individuals develop positive habits by sounding an alarm whenever a user moves their hands to touch their face. This new electronic gadget is very affordable, lightweight and can be worn around the neck like a locket, ”the university said.

“The device can detect in no time any time a person’s hand approaches their face using infrared proximity sensor technology. The audible alarm, LED light and vibration motor go off as an alert which will get louder as the hand gets closer to the face., “It said.

Researchers have also designed a unique type of glove that not only protects the person who uses it, but also prevents the spread of viruses thanks to its special design.

“The inner layer is the same as a normal safety glove, followed by a second layer made of a special material loaded with antiviral agents or disinfectant or disinfectant. The uppermost layer is perforated to release the antiviral agent on the top surface, which makes the gloves virus-free and prevents its spread, “the university said.

The pressure to release the disinfectant onto the surface of the gloves is generated by the movement of the fingers when holding an object. In addition to ensuring safety, these gloves will not allow the spread of the virus during their removal, as they contain disinfectant, “he added.

Mr Jain, who led the research, said the group focused on the three basic attributes: ensuring social distancing, the use of gloves and preventing people from touching their faces to limit the spread of the virus. .

“If we can curb these three basic instincts, the spread of the virus can be limited,” he said.
