PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti says his party will continue to fight for special status in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar:

People’s Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti said today her party will continue the fight to “bring back the state flag” and “will not give up the battle for Kashmir” for special status, one year after the center divided the state into two Union territories and ended the special. status under article 370 of the Constitution.

After spending over a year under arrest, Ms. Mufti said: “Those who think we are going to abandon Kashmir are wrong.”

“A thief can be powerful, but he must return the stolen goods. They demolished the Constitution … Parliament did not have the power to withdraw special status,” she told reporters. “The dictatorship will not last long,” Ms. Mufti said.

After former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference was also released after spending nearly a year under arrest, key leaders including Ms Mufti and Sajjad Lone came together to fight for the reinstatement of section 370.

Called “Popular Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration”, the newly created group is also seeking dialogue between all stakeholders for the resolution of Kashmir.

“Even if the leaders have to shed their blood for the cause, Mehbooba Mufti will be the first to offer it,” the PDP chief said today. “We are not comfortable with India today,” she told reporters.

Most of the political leaders in the Kashmir Valley had been in detention for a long time – this was part of preventive measures against the backlash taken by the center last August, a day before the big announcement in parliament.

“Our battle is a constitutional battle, we want the Indian government to give back to the people of the state the rights they held before August 5, 2019,” Farooq Abdullah said on October 15, the day the alliance was formed. of the Gupkar Declaration.
