A police officer was arrested on Saturday for inflicting burns on a 1.5-year-old girl with a cigarette butt and beating her mother in Balod district in Chhattisgarh, police said.

Constable Avinash Rai, who was on the run after committing the crime on Thursday evening, was arrested in the nearby Durg district, police chief Jitendra Singh Meena told PTI.

While posted to Balod district, the accused lived in the victims’ home, the official said.

The defendant loaned the money to the woman whose husband lives in Nagpur, and on October 24, he went to her home to collect the amount and continued to stay there, Meena said.

Thursday evening, the accused allegedly forced the child to call him “daddy” and when she did not answer, he inflicted multiple burns on her face, stomach and hands with cigarette butts, a- he said.

The accused also allegedly beat and assaulted the woman before fleeing the scene, he said.

Based on the woman’s complaint, a case was registered under Articles 294 (obscene acts), 323 (willfully injuring) and 324 (willfully injuring by weapons or dangerous means) of the IPC, the IPC said. responsible.

Further investigation is underway and ministerial action has been taken against the accused agent, he added.
