Stockholm:

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg on Saturday asked US voters to choose Joe Biden, saying the outcome of the US presidential election was crucial in tackling climate change.

The 17-year-old founder of the “Fridays for Future” climate protests said on Twitter: “I never engage in party politics. But the upcoming US election is beyond all of that.

“From a climate point of view, this is far from enough and many of you have of course supported other candidates,” Thunberg admitted.

“But, I mean… you know… damn! Get organized and get everyone voting #Biden,” she added.

Biden challenges US President Donald Trump, who dismisses climate change warnings and rejected Thunberg.

“Greta needs to work on her anger management problem, then go see a good old movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!” Trump tweeted once.

“She appears to be a very happy young girl who is looking forward to a bright and wonderful future,” Trump tweeted again after Thunberg addressed the United Nations with a furious challenge contained in the simple question “How dare you? “

Biden, for his part, reached out to Thunberg and praised his commitment to tackling climate change.

Last month, respected magazine Scientific American also urged readers to vote for Biden on November 3, the first time in nearly 200 years that he has taken a political stand.

“Consider voting to protect science instead of destroying it,” the editors said in comments relayed by Thunberg with his approval.
