Beijing:

China said on Friday that it would impose literal measures on US institutions and individuals who “misbehave” on Xinjiang issues after Washington imposed sanctions on Chinese officials following a crackdown on Uighurs and other Turkish Muslims in the region.

The Chinese response came after the United States announced a visa ban and an asset freeze for three officials, including Chen Quanquo, leader of the Chinese Communist Party in Xinjiang and Beijing hardline architect against reluctant minorities.

“American actions seriously interfere in China’s internal affairs, seriously violate basic standards of international relations and seriously damage Sino-US relations,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a briefing. Press.

“In response to the wrongful actions of the United States, China has decided to impose reciprocal measures against the concerned American institutions and individuals who behave badly on Xinjiang-related issues,” said Zhao without providing details of the sanctions.

Witnesses, human rights groups say China has brought together more than one million Uighurs and other Turkish Muslims in Xinjiang in a massive brainwashing campaign to forcibly homogenize minorities in the majority Han of the country.

China counters that the facilities are benign vocational education centers where “students” learn Mandarin and professional skills in an effort to eradicate extremism following a wave of deadly violence.
