Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh:
Nine people were killed on Friday when an SUV collided with a container truck on the Lucknow-Prayagraj highway in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
A youth was seriously injured in the accident and was hospitalized.
The SUV was traveling from Rajasthan to Bhojpur in Bihar when the accident occurred near the village of Wajidpur in the Nawabganj region, about 70 km from Pratapgarh.
The people killed are three women, two children and four men, said Radheyshyam Maurya, the Kunda police circle officer. They have yet to be identified, he said.
The driver of the container truck managed to escape from the area after the accident.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the accident and instructed the authorities to ensure the proper treatment of the injured.
