Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said on Sunday that the state government has no plans to impose a new tax to deal with the economic impact of the coronavirus crisis.

Answering a specific question during a virtual press conference, Yogi Adityanath said: “We have started our economic activities and they are progressing rapidly. Compared to the previous month, the turnover (collection) of this month seems good.”

“There is no question of imposing a separate tax, and our objective is to give more relaxation to the public. How to stimulate industrial activities while respecting the standards of social distancing is our objective”, he declared .

He also said that when migrant workers started returning to Uttar Pradesh, people thought it would cause chaos in the state. “But we saw them as our strength.”

The Uttar Pradesh government recently decided to establish a migration commission to explore opportunities within the state for migrant workers.

The chief minister had recently said: “They (return migrants) are our people … and if some states want them to come back, they have to ask for permission from the state government (UP)”.

It is necessary to guarantee their socio-legal-monetary rights, he had said.

In accordance with Yogi Adityanath’s instructions, the skills mapping of around 14.75 migrant workers has so far been completed. More than 1.51 lakh of them are real estate workers, said a government spokesperson.

On May 29, the UP government signed initial agreements with various industry organizations to help provide 11 Lakh jobs for migrant workers who returned as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Federation of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Association of Indian Industries (IIA) each represented three lakh jobs, while NARDECO and Laghu Udyog Bharati each represented 2.5 lakh jobs, said the minister. from UP MSME, Sidharth Nath Singh, at PTI.

He also said that his department had set up a control room for migrant workers and had so far paid 1,700 crore rupees for workers in 75,000 units.
