Amazon.com Inc said it was deleting images after messages using extremely strong racist abuse appeared on certain lists on its UK website when users searched for Apple AirPods and other similar products.

The post sparked outrage on Twitter, with the subject of “AirPods” in vogue in the UK.

“We are deleting the footage and have taken action against the bad actor,” an Amazon spokesperson told Reuters on Sunday. She did not give more details about the “bad actor”.

Screenshots and video captures of messages were in vogue on Twitter, with users sharing the images.

The lists containing the abusive messages were no longer visible on the Amazon UK website and the length of their stay was unclear.

In April, several foreign Amazon websites, including the British domain, were added to the US regulator’s “notorious markets” report on markets known for their counterfeiting and piracy problems.

Amazon strongly disagreed with the report at the time, describing it as a “purely political act”.
