Raigad building collapse: woman rescued after spending 26 hours under building debris

It was a moment that Mehrunissa Abdul Hamid Kazi will not forget for a long time. After spending 26 hours trapped under concrete and steel debris, Ms Kazi finally got through Tuesday night with the help of rescuers from a small hole at the site where a five-story story stood before s ‘collapse at Raigad of Maharashtra.
Breathing from a wearable oxygen mask attached to her face, Ms Kazi is seen in footage taken from the rubble by a group of rescuers dressed in bright orange safety suits. A film of dust covers his clothes and hair.
Earlier in the day, a four-year-old who had been trapped for more than 19 hours was rescued by personnel from the National Disaster Intervention Force (NDRF).
The five-story residential building with 45 apartments, which was seven years old, collapsed on Monday evening. Rescue work that began shortly after the incident continues as NDRF teams search for survivors in the debris.
Thirteen are dead and several are still missing. A complaint was filed against the contractor and the architect of the building.
What led to the building collapse is under investigation. However, several similar accidents were reported during the monsoon. A two-story building also collapsed in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.
A resident of Raigad’s apartment building, Mustafav Chaphekar, said work on the structure was inferior and the plasters had come off since he and his family moved there in 2013, the agency reported. PTI press release.
Mr Chaphekar said the problems escalated over the next two years, after which they encountered the builder, who was reluctant to make repairs.
“The builder told us he built the building and gave it to us, and it was up to us what to do with it,” said Chaphekar, who fled from the building just. before it collapses.
