Chandigarh:
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Saturday the BJP will ask Congress for “a 54-year record” as it remained in power in Haryana most of the time after being separated from the Punjab as a separate state in 1966.
Mr Khattar also said the BJP would ask voters at the Baroda assembly seat, where a bypoll will take place in November, whether they want someone who will do development work or someone “inactive”.
The bypoll at the Baroda assembly headquarters in Sonipat, which was made necessary due to the disappearance of Congressman Shri Krishan Hooda in April, will take place on November 3 while the counting of the votes will take place on November 10.
“After independence, congressional governments remained in power in the state and in the country most of the time.
“In this constituency (Baroda) too, after 1966, about 53 to 54 years have passed since then (mainly) congressmen have been elected. Now when we go to the polls, we will seek to ask them for a 54-year (Congress) account, ”Mr. Khattar told media in Gohana, Sonipat district of Haryana.
He said he told the people of Baroda after the congressional lawmaker died that they should consider him their MP until the new lawmaker is elected.
Mr. Khattar said that every department of the state government has launched works in accordance with the aspirations of people here, adding that several development projects have been launched.
Haryana’s chief minister also alleged that congressional lawmakers never cared about this constituency.
“Certainly we will tell people how an MP from this constituency should be. Whether they want someone doing their job or someone inactive,” he said.
“You should elect one who could do your job in the next four years,” he added.
He said his government had completed several works related to roads, electricity, canal and also announced the establishment of two colleges, a rice mill and an industrial model township to create jobs for the residents of this constituency.
“They (Congress) left several works halfway,” he said.
Attacking former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Mr Khattar said the congressional leader used to say that Baroda and Kiloi constituencies were treated equally.
“If they are equal eyes, then who told you to see more than one eye and put a show on the other. Work like in Kiloi should have been done here (Baroda) too,” he said. .
Garhi Sampla Kiloi is the original constituency of Mr. Hooda.
Khattar said the ruling party would go door-to-door and make personal contact with 1.50 lakh in Baroda and let people know about the development work being done by his government.
He said the BJP-JJP alliance will fight Baroda’s bypass on issues of development, government transparency and employment.
He said his government would start buying peanuts from farmers in Fatehabad, Sirsa and Hisar.
He added that out of 3.20 lakh rice farmers in Haryana, 1.22 lakh have given their consent to receive payment through Arthiyas (commission agents) and the rest will receive direct payments.
Mr Khattar said that out of the total of 15 lakh of metric tonnes of paddy arrival, 11 lakh MT have been purchased so far.
He said his government was buying “bajra” (millet) at a rate of Rs 2,150 per quintal.
