The Uttar Pradesh government said on Sunday that the case involving a 22-year-old Dalit woman who died in Balrampur district after allegedly being raped by two men would be heard by a fast-track court and, if necessary, strict law on national security (NSA) can be invoked thereafter.
Speaking to reporters in the district, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said: “This case will be reviewed by a fast-track court and, if necessary, the strict National Security Act (NSA) can be invoked. The points raised by the injured family was taken seriously. The culprits will not be spared. “
Mr. Awasthi, along with the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar, arrived in Balrampur and met the injured family at their residence.
Under the NSA, a person can be detained without charge for up to 12 months if the authorities believe they pose a threat to national security or public order.
The 22-year-old Dalit woman died after being raped by two men in Balrampur district. The two defendants were arrested, police said.
Speaking to reporters in Balrampur on Wednesday, the victim’s mother claimed the rapists broke her daughter’s legs and back, a charge denied by police.
“My daughter went to be admitted to middle school on Tuesday. On the way home, three or four people abducted her, took her to their room, gave her an injection and raped her. threw her back on an electric rickshaw. and threw her outside our house. They broke her legs and her back. She could neither stand nor speak, “said the victim’s mother. .
Citing family members of the victim, Balrampur Police Chief Dev Ranjan Verma said the woman, who worked in a private company, returned home in serious condition on Tuesday.
The victim was cremated on Wednesday after his autopsy in the presence of members of his family.
