Twitter started to challenge Trump’s tweets in May and has clashed with him several times since then.

Twitter Inc. removed an image tweeted by U.S. President Donald Trump from its platform after receiving a copyright complaint from the New York Times.

Trump’s original tweet posted on June 30, showed a meme that said, “Really, they’re not after me, they’re after you, I’m just annoying” with the image of Trump in the background .

The background photo was taken by a photographer from the New York Times, to accompany a feature article on the then presidential candidate, Trump, in September 2015.

Twitter now displays the message “This image was deleted in response to a report from the copyright holder”, in place of the tweet.

The social media site decision is the latest example of content posted by Trump being flagged or deleted, due to what Twitter says are complaints of copyright infringement, a violation of its policy on threats of violence, among others.

Twitter deleted the image after receiving a complaint from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of the New York Times, which owns the rights to the photo, according to a notice posted on the Lumen database.

The database collects and analyzes legal complaints and requests to delete documents online.

Twitter started to challenge Trump’s tweets in May and has clashed with him several times since then. The president threatened to change social media laws after Twitter labeled one of his postal voting tweets as inaccurate and hid a tweet about looting, which Twitter said was promoting violence.

A tribute video to George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis, was also deactivated by Twitter, Facebook and Instagram on their platforms last month due to complaints of copyright infringement.

Twitter and NYT did not respond when contacted by Reuters for further comments.
