Bhopal:

Veteran Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh will return to Rajya Sabha for the second consecutive term with BJP leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sumer Singh Solanki from Madhya Pradesh. Digvijaya Singh obtained 57 votes, Jyotiraditya Scindia obtained 56 votes and Sumer Singh Solanki obtained 55 votes. Congress candidate Phool Singh Baraiya won 36 votes and lost the election.

After winning the election, Mr. Scindia released a video thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Interior Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh and party workers. He also said that he was not well and could not be physically present, but he will meet them soon.

The 206 MPs voted in the elections, which began at 9 a.m. Kalipeepal Congressman Kunal Chaudhary, who was covered from head to toe in a white protective suit, was among the last leaders to show up to vote in the National Assembly in Bhopal. Mr. Chaudhary tested positive for COVID-19. His turn to vote came after 205 deputies had already voted.

The BJP, which had the support of 112 deputies including two from the Bahujan Samaj party, a Samajwadi party and three independents, lost two votes. One BJP MP voted against his party while the other was rejected. Gopilal Jatav de Guna voted for the candidate for Congress but explained to the party that it was “by mistake”. Another Raigaon Jugal Kishore Bagri BJP deputy had his vote rejected for technical reasons. A congressional vote was also rejected.

After 22 deputies loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia changed sides and resigned from Congress, this time Congress was particularly careful and transported its deputies to the voting center in buses. Two buses with 54 deputies, including Kamal Nath, reached the polling station and voted for the party’s first candidate, Digvijaya Singh. Later, the second batch of 37 congressmen left for the assembly complex and voted for Phool Singh Baraiya.
