According to the latest data, rail freight revenues fell by Rs 8,283 crore in April and May.

New Delhi:

Rail freight loading, which had dropped dramatically during the lockout period, showed improvement with the national carrier recording more than 90% loading in June so far, compared to the same period l ‘last year, said a senior official.

Railway loading in April was reduced by 35% compared to last year, in May it decreased by 22%, but in June so far there is only one down 9% from last year, indicating a surge in economic activity in the country.

“Economic activities have resumed. The loading of food grains has doubled and even the loading of coal, fertilizer and cement has resumed. The June loading has almost returned to normal. There is a steady growth in loading, slowly we are moving towards normal loading models, “VK Yadav Council said.

“The way freight is accelerating and the Indian railways are planning and trying to get more and more goods into our basket of goods, not only will we be able to reach last year’s figures, but we will earn more revenue than last year, “he said.

While freight loading was 57 million tonnes in June 2019, this year, until June 17, the railways had already loaded 52 million tonnes, he said.

Yadav said, however, that there are still uncertainties in the passenger segment. “Regarding revenues in the passenger segment, we get Rs 50,000 crore, and in freight (segment) we earn Rs 1 30,000 crore. I have no doubt that we will do better than last year in freight, but since we are unable to run as many trains as we usually do, in our passenger revenues, there are uncertainties, “he said.

According to the latest data, rail freight revenues fell by Rs 8,283 crore during the foreclosure months of April and May compared to the same period last year.
