Coronavirus: Supporters gathered to greet Tamil Nadu Minister Sellur Raju, who has recovered from COVID-19.

In blatant violation of coronavirus safety standards, large numbers of ruling AIADMK workers – many without masks – gathered in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to greet a minister who had returned from hospital after s ” be recovered from COVID-19.

Physical distance, key to containing the spread of the coronavirus, was ignored as supporters argued for a glimpse of Cooperation Minister Sellur Raju, headquartered in Madurai West.

The visuals are particularly disturbing as Madurai sees an increase in the number of coronavirus cases and has become a hotspot.

Earlier, wishing Mr. Raju a speedy recovery, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam called on the population to be cautious and cautious in carrying out their duty.

Mr Raju had tested positive for the coronavirus on July 10. He was the third minister to contract coronavirus disease in the government led by EK Palaniswami. In Tamil Nadu, at least 10 MPs, including ministers, have tested positive for the coronavirus and one has died from complications related to Covid.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest number of coronavirus cases in the country after Maharashtra. The state today reported 5,864 new cases, bringing its total number of active cases to 57,962, with 3,838 deaths.

Today, India has reported more than 50,000 cases for the second day in a row. There are now more than 5.45 lakh active cases in the country where the cure rate is almost 64 percent with a doubling rate of 20 days.
