22 IIT Guwahati researchers are named to Stanford University’s World’s Top Scientists List

New Delhi:

At least 14 scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Banaras Hindu University were among the top two percent of top performing scientists on a global list compiled by the prestigious Stanford University.

The list also includes 22 faculty members or researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati.

The US-based Stanford University recently released a list that represents the top 2% of scientists in various disciplines. The comprehensive list counts 1,59,683 people with nearly 1,500 scientists, doctors and engineers in India.

“The list includes the names of 14 professors from the Indian Institute of Technology (Hindu University of Banaras). All were selected on the basis of the international evaluation of their research paper,” said the director of IIT BHU, Pramod Kumar Jain.

The fourteen faculty members of IIT-BHU include: Rajiv Prakash, Dean (Research and Development); Pralaya Maiti and Dhananjay Pandey from the School of Materials Science and Technology; Yogesh Chandra Sharma and PC Pandey from the Department of Chemistry; Brahmeshwar Mishra, Sanjay Singh, SK Singh and MS Muthu of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology; Devendra Kumar of Ceramic Engineering; Undergo Das of mathematical sciences; Rakesh Kumar Singh of physics; Zahra Sarkar from the Mechanical Department and Om Prakash.

Led by Professor TG Sitharam, Director of IIT Guwahati, IIT Guwahati faculty members have been ranked for their 2019 research publication citations and lifelong contribution to their research areas.

“This recognition of several faculties in the top 2% of scientists in the world has placed IIT Guwahati on the global science map and brought great pride to the institute. I congratulate the 22 scientists for their hard work and commitment to promote science, ”Professor Sitharam said in a statement.

The report was prepared by Professor John PA Loannidis of Stanford University and his team.

The database, according to IIT Guwahati, was created to provide up-to-date analyzes and a publicly accessible database of top scientists who provide standardized information on citation, h-index, hm index adjusted by co-author , citations of articles in different author positions, and a composite indicator.

The faculty members of IIT Guwahati featured in the list come from a variety of scientific fields – the departments of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Biosciences and Bioengineering, Chemistry, Electrical and electronics.
