Farm bills aim to kill and hurt farmers, Rahul Gandhi alleged

New Delhi:

Stepping up its attack on the Center over agricultural bills passed by Parliament, Congress on Saturday led a social media campaign – Speak for the Farmers – with Rahul Gandhi demanding that the government withdraw proposed legislation and give a guarantee on the MSP.

All three bills were passed by both houses of parliament during the monsoon session and are awaiting presidential approval.

In a video message as part of the Congressional Speak for the Farmers campaign, Gandhi told farmers they were constantly “under attack”.

“First demonetization, then TPS, then you weren’t given a single rupee at the time of the coronavirus, an attempt was made to kill you (farmers), you are becoming a slave to the companies, and now these three projects of deadly law, ”Mr. Gandhi said in his video message.

These bills are aimed at killing and harming farmers, he said.

“We are on your side (farmers) and together we will stop these bills,” Gandhi said.

“I mean to the government – you made a very big mistake. If the farmers take to the streets it will cause huge damage. Don’t waste time, remove these laws immediately and give a guarantee on the MSP (minimum price support) to farmers, ”said the former head of Congress.

As part of the Congress ‘Speak for Farmers’ campaign on social media, several party leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal, P Chidambaram, Ahmed Patel, Salman Khurshid, Tariq Anwar, Sachin Pilot and Shashi Tharoor , posted videos expressing support for farmers and calling for the withdrawal of bills.

Video messages from various congressional leaders were posted on the party’s official Twitter account with a hashtag “ SpeakUpForFarmers ”.

Farmers across the country are raising their voices together against the new farm bills, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in a Hindi tweet.

“No provision of MSP in invoices, the end of contract farming and the mandi system is tantamount to hitting the hard work of farmers with an ax,” she said.

“Today all of India is united against this injustice,” said Priyanka Gandhi.
