DSP parent Devendra Mishra, one of eight killed in the Kanpur ambush, questioned the arrest of gangster Vikas Dubey on Thursday, saying it was a “well-planned surrender” and that the gangster was “saved from death”.
He was apparently referring to the deaths of the five alleged accomplices of Dubey during meetings with the police.
IG, Civil Defense, Amitabh Thakur, said it was possible that Dubey could be killed in a meeting while trying to escape from police custody, thereby closing the gangster chapter. But the episode had exposed the mud of UP police and there was a need to take action against those found guilty, he said.

He said that Dubey was able to travel without any difficulty despite the presence of a large police force controlling people and vehicles on the roads.
