Ratan Tata called the murder of a pregnant elephant in Kerala “meditated murder”.

Mumbai:

On Wednesday, industrialist Ratan Tata called the murder of a pregnant elephant in Kerala “meditated murder” and asked for justice for the animal.

The elephant would have eaten a pineapple filled with firecrackers, placed by some locals. The firecracker burst in his mouth, causing his death in the Silent Valley forest on May 27.

“I am saddened and shocked to know that a group of people have caused the death of an innocent, passive and pregnant elephant by feeding the elephant with a pineapple filled with firecrackers,” tweeted Ratan Tata.

“Such criminal acts against innocent animals are no different from acts of meditated murder against other human beings,” said the veteran industrial animal lover.

“Justice must prevail,” he said.

The Kerala government said Wednesday that a wildlife crime investigation team would investigate the brutal murder, while the center took serious note of the incident and requested a report from the state.
