Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar, who has not been feeling well for a few days, has tested positive for coronavirus and is under quarantine at home, according to reports. Kumar had tested positive on Tuesday, reports said.
At least 35 officials working at the ministry’s headquarters in the South Building in the Raisina Hills have been quarantined at home, reported the PTI news agency.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh did not report to the South Block office on Wednesday as a precautionary measure, it is reported.
The PTI, citing official sources, said that the Defense Ministry had conducted a massive contact tracing exercise. The first floor of the South building is also being disinfected.
It is not known whether the Secretary of Defense has been in contact with the heads of service in recent days or with the Chief of the Defense Staff. The offices of the Minister of Defense, the Secretary of Defense, the Chief of the Army and the Head of the Navy are located on the first floor of the South Block.
