The FIR was registered following the complaint of the Chief State Government Whip, Mahesh Joshi.

Jaipur:

The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday issued notices to dissident Congressmen Bhanwarlal Sharma and Vishvendra Singh, asking them to appear before it within three days for an investigation into an alleged plot to overthrow the state government.

The ACB had recorded an FIR against Bhanwarlal under the Corruption Prevention Act on July 17 in connection with the audio tapes, which allegedly indicated a plot to bring down the Congressional government in the state.

Vishvendra Singh, who had previously been removed from the state cabinet, was also summoned for investigation into the audio tapes.

“We issued notices to them today asking them to appear within three days,” said an ACB official.

The FIR was recorded following a complaint by the Chief State Government Whip, Mahesh Joshi, who had produced three audio tapes.

In two of the tapes, MP Bhanwarlal Sharma was allegedly overheard speaking to a certain Sanjay Jain and Gajendra Singh about the “conspiracy” and the “amount”.

Citing the audio clips on social media, Congress had demanded Gajendra Singh Shekhawat’s resignation from the Union Cabinet, saying he had no moral authority to continue when heard on audio clips suggesting a conspiracy of the BJP to overthrow the government of Rajasthan.

However, the FIR does not identify “Gajendra Singh”, referred to as the clip as Union Minister Mr. Shekhawat, a top BJP leader in Rajasthan.

The third audio cassette is said to be kept between two people but no name appears on it.

However, ACB sources said that a voice sounds like Vishvendra Singh, which is why a notice was sent to him as well.

The Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (SOG) also recorded two FIRs in connection with the audio tapes and arrested Sanjay Jain, who was labeled the leader of the BJP by Congress, a charge denied by the Saffron party.

The SOG also issued an advisory to Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in this regard and attempted to locate Congressman Bhanwarlal for investigation into the case.

The Congress Party had previously suspended the main line-up of Vishvendra Singh and Bhanwarlal Sharma after the audio tapes were released.
