Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birthday on Monday, saying he had made courageous efforts to promote India’s unity.

SP Mookerjee was born that day in 1901 in Calcutta.

“I bow to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his Jayanti. A devout patriot, he has made an exemplary contribution to the development of India,” wrote Prime Minister Modi on Twitter.

SP Mookerjee has made courageous efforts to promote the unity of India, said the Prime Minister.

“His thoughts and ideals give strength to millions of people across the country,” he said.
