Car driver in Patna reportedly committed suicide due to economic problems

Patna:

Car driver in Patna committed suicide on Saturday night after failing to find a stable source of income or provide food for his family due to traffic and public transport restrictions in connection with the coronavirus shutdown .

Family members say the 25-year-old man, who lived in Shahpur on the outskirts of the city, had struggled to earn money driving his rickshaw and could not find work as a daily bet. The automobile was purchased on loan and almost three months of foreclosure had made payment of installments even more difficult.

When GalacticGaming met his father and asked him questions about the family’s difficulties, he said that the family had not received a ration card despite the pillar’s run to the station.

However, after news of his death reached the authorities, the Patna district magistrate, Kumar Ravi, rushed to the home of the grieving family today with 25 kg of rice and wheat.

The young man is survived by his three children.

The tragic death of this 25-year-old man brought unemployment to the fore in Bihar; this week Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition, denounced chief minister Nitish Kumar for not focusing on “real problems like unemployment”.

“Nitish Kumar and the BJP must focus on the real problems of unemployment … this will help Bihar and therefore needs to be addressed urgently,” said Yadav.

According to the think tank CMIE (Center for Monitoring Indian Economy), the unemployment rate in Bihar is 46.2%, in May 2020.

As the economy struggles to recover from the long stall, described by some as the strictest in the world and which has left unemployed lakhs and many others struggling to survive, state governments, including Bihar , were faced with the problem of the balance between job creation and COVID-19 management.

Last month Chief Minister Nitish Kumar urged industrialists to create units in the state and provide jobs for the lakhs of unemployed men and women who already live there, as well as the lakhs of returning migrants them in the middle of isolation.

Bihar has more than 6,400 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 39 deaths linked to the virus.

The state has seen a gradual reopening of commercial activities, like the rest of the country, in accordance with the centre’s desire to revive the economy by relaxing the restrictions.

On June 8, places of worship, hotels and restaurants and shopping centers were authorized to reopen. Automobiles and electronic rickshaws were also allowed to operate, but with restrictions on the number of passengers they could carry; however, they were not allowed to run in containment areas or areas with more than 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
