Islamabad:

The Sindh High Court on Sunday ordered that a Christian teenager kidnapped before being forcibly converted and married to a Muslim be transferred to a shelter, Pakistani Minister of Human Rights Shireen Mazari said.

The 13-year-old Christian girl was kidnapped, allegedly by Ali Azhar, a 44-year-old man, in Karachi. Human rights organizations demanded justice for the girl.

“The judge ordered the girl to be picked up by the police and relevant agencies and transferred to a shelter. Next hearing scheduled for Thursday morning. [November 5]. My lawyer informed the court that an intervenor would be filed on my behalf, ”Ms. Mazari wrote on Twitter.

The investigator in charge of the case, Inspector Shariq Ahmed Siddiqui, said the girl had appeared in court.

He said he called for verification of the girl’s Form B, which the National Database and Registration Authority said was genuine.

According to the first information report, the girl’s father alleged that on October 13, he and his wife were at work and their son had gone to school. The complainant said his three daughters, including the daughter, were present at their home at Railway Colony when he received a call from a relative, who told him she was missing from the house, Dawn reported.

He said he had returned home and contacted their neighbors, but could not find his daughter. He then filed a complaint about the kidnapping of his daughter against strangers at the police station in Frere.

Her family members earlier this month told Dawn that the accused, Azhar, lived in a house across from theirs with her family and was at least 45 years old. The man “who abducted her prepared false papers to show that she was 18,” her mother said.

Naveed Walter, president of Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP), said girls from minority communities, especially Christians and Hindus, are often targeted.

“Abduction, conversion and marriage – which all occur on the same day – are common practice in such cases and it happened with this girl as well, in the same order,” he said. .

The HRFP investigative team revealed that during the Sindh High Court proceedings on October 27, all of their records were changed. Her photo on legal documents had also been altered, as her mother pointed out.

The police had registered a complaint against Syed Ali Azhar and arrested her brothers, Syed Shariq Ali, Syed Mohsin Ali, and a friend, Danish, for allegedly kidnapping the girl and forcing her to convert.
