Pakistan recorded its highest number of coronavirus cases in a single day with 6,825 new patients, bringing the number to 1,39,230, while more than 80 people lost their lives in the past 24 hours, a announced the Ministry of Health on Sunday.

The Ministry of National Health Services said the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has reached 2,632, with an additional 81 deaths.

He said that in the past 24 hours, 6,825 people have tested positive for the coronavirus, the highest rate of increase in a single day to date, bringing the total number of cases to 1,39,230.

The number of people who have recovered so far has reached 51,735, according to the report.

But on the other hand, the number of patients in the two largest provinces of Punjab and Sindh has exceeded 50,000 each.

According to ministry data, Punjab has 52,601 patients, Sindh 51,518, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 17,450, Balochistan 8,028, Islamabad 7,934, Gilgit-Baltistan 1,095, and Kashmir occupied by Pakistan 604.

To date, 868,565 tests have been performed across the country, including 29,546 in the past 24 hours.

According to Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, the contagion has infected more than 77 million people and killed more than 4 30,000 worldwide. The United States is the most affected country with more than 2.07 million cases and more than 1,15,000 deaths.

COVID-19, which originated in the city of Wuhan in China in December of last year, also hit the world economy, with the International Monetary Fund saying the world economy is expected to experience a “severe recession”.

Scientists are racing against the clock to find a vaccine or medication for its treatment.
