Jammu:

Pakistani troops on Sunday resorted to heavy mortar bombardment on forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a dignified reprisal. Indian army, said a defense spokesperson.

There were no reports of any casualties on the Indian side in the bombing, the spokesperson said.

“At around 3:20 am Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing small arms and heavy mortar bombardment along the line in the Mankote area. The Indian Army responded as it should, ”the spokesperson said.

A police officer said cross-border shooting between the two camps continued until 5 a.m., causing panic among border residents who were forced to take refuge in underground bunkers for their safety.
