Left and Congress to stage statewide protests on October 6 against alleged gang rape of Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, in addition to incidents of rape and murder in West Bengal .

A mega rally will be held in Kolkata, while similar programs will also be held in other districts, according to a statement released by Left Front Chairman Biman Bose and opposition leader Abdul Mannan of Congress.

The Kolkata rally will start at the Esplanade and pass through Park Street to end near Lady Brabourne College, he said.

“Apart from the appalling Hathras incident in the UP, we must raise our voice against the increase in rape and murder of women in West Bengal,” he said.

“The recent cases are the brutal rape and murder of women in Ghatal and Debra in Paschim Medinipur. The TMC government owes the women of the state, the people of the state an explanation for the increase in brutality against women.” , he added. .

About 1,000 left-wing and congressional activists demonstrated in Kolkata on Saturday against the alleged gang rape in Hathras that sparked nationwide outrage.

The 19-year-old Dalit woman was reportedly raped in a village in Hathras by four men on September 14. After her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi where she last breathed on Tuesday.

She was cremated in the early hours of Wednesday, with her family claiming that local police forced them to perform the last rites in the middle of the night.
