On the occasion of the birthday of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, her sister, reading singer Asha Bhosle, shared a beautiful childhood memory on Monday. Lata Mangeshkar, nicknamed the Nightingale of India, turned 91 today. On the occasion, Asha Bhosle has flipped through their childhood album and shared a black and white photo of themselves that also features the veteran singer’s two other sisters – Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. In the blast of the past Lata Mangeshkar can be seen seated in a chair to the left. “Birthday greetings to Lata Didi who is 91 today. Remembering our childhood through this photo where Didi can be seen sitting on the left and Meena Tai and I are standing behind herm,” Asha Bhosle wrote in the legend.

Lata Mangeshkar took up singing to support her family after the death of her father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar in 1942. He was a classical singer and stage actor. In Bollywood, Lata Mangeshkar had her first major break with the song Dil Mera Toda from the 1948 film Majboor. However, his song Aayega Aanewaala from the movie Mahal (1949) became his first major success. Lata Mangeshkar sang in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and other regional languages. She has also received the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke awards as well as several national and Filmfare awards.

Last year in November, Lata Mangeshkar admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after complaining of difficulty breathing. She was released from the hospital in December.
