A senior official of a Haryana farmer’s market committee was repeatedly slapped and beaten with slippers by internet star-turned-politician Sonali Phogat for misconduct. A video of the attack is viral on social networks.
The incident took place on Friday when Ms. Phogat, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Haryana assembly elections as a BJP candidate, was inspecting the farmers’ market. Later, she went with a list of complaints from farmers with the officer, Sultan Singh, who allegedly called her dramabaz.
Angry at the alleged remark, Ms. Phogat beat up and abused the officer. The grievor is implored with the leader in the video, saying that he noted her complaints and assured her of addressing them.
Ms. Phogat then called the police. According to reports, she did not file a complaint after the officer apologized.
Tik Tok star Phogat had filed a lawsuit against his sister and brother-in-law last year, alleging that she had been attacked and threatened.
