Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that India was not an “expansionist” country and that it only believed in the well-being of the world.

Addressing an event in Pune via video conference, Mr. Gadkari said that to achieve self-reliance there is a need for knowledge, entrepreneurship, science, technology, research and successful practice.

“… while taking the country on the path of development, we must focus on scientific progress. We must acquire the number one position on the knowledge base to make our country a world power”, at -he declares.

“But in doing this, we are not expansionist. There are some countries, which are driven by expansionist desires, but we believe in the welfare of the world. We believe in ‘Vasudev Kutumbakam“(the world is a family),” Mr. Gadkari said.

He said that the speech given by Swami Vivekanands in Chicago was our inspiration.

Stressing the need to make education accessible to all, he said “it should reach the last man standing”.

“But, at the same time, we must guarantee quality education,” he added.

Mr. Gadkari said that knowledge as power should not be the only goal and that impetus should be given to the transmission of values-based education to create ideal citizens.

To become “atmanirbhar“(Autonomous), there is a need to reduce imports and increase exports,” said Gadkari, who is also the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

“In my department, I collect the information on imported products. I appeal to everyone that we need to produce import substitutes,” he said.

Speaking of self-sufficiency in education, Gadkari said universities should be modernized in the country so that people do not need to go abroad to study.

“We have all the capabilities to create world-class universities and we can do it, all that is needed is will and ambition,” he said.

The minister lamented the fact that the rate of development of people who selflessly work to raise education standards is slow, but on the other hand, those who have commercialized education, their progress is faster.

“The pace of progress of people who have done commercialization is equal to that of the bullet train, but those who do selfless work in education, they advance at the rate of a passenger train,” he said. -he says.

The event was organized by the Maharashtra Education Society, which operates several educational institutions in Pune.
