A complaint has been filed against collector Manish Agarwal and three employees of his office.

Malkangiri:

Police on Sunday filed a case against the Malkangiri district magistrate-collector and three other staff in his office in connection with the mysterious death of his former personal assistant (PA) last year.

Following an order from the sub-division’s trial court, a complaint was filed against collector Manish Agarwal and three staff in his office for murdering his PA and destroying evidence.

Manish Agarwal was not available for comment.

The body of collector’s PA, Deb Narayan Panda, was found in a tank near the town of Malkanigi on December 28 last year, a day after she went missing.

Initially, it was suspected that Mr. Panda had committed suicide. However, around six months after the incident, his wife claimed he was murdered by collector Malkangiri and some of his office staff.

Although the PA’s family lodged a written complaint, it was not recorded by the police.

After Mr Panda’s family moved the Human Rights Commission from Odisha, the Commission ordered the state police director general to investigate the case. As a result, the southwestern DIG channel undertook site visits and inquired about the death of the PA.

Mr Panda’s family members have also filed a complaint with the SDJM court asking the police to register a murder case against collector Malkangiri and three others.
