Bombay:
As large parts of the “maximum city” face unprecedented and widespread power outages due to “TATA’s incoming power outage,” Mumbai residents have taken to social media by sharing witty memes with a side of political sarcasm.
“Gayaab electricity (part) across Mumbai. Unprecedented. Mumbai is plunging into darkness. Could it be these tunnels?” Writer Shobhaa De asked as others checked to see if “everyone’s electricity was gone?”

Within minutes of the blackout, people took to social media. Hashtags such as #powercut, #Mumbai, and #poweroutage, among others, have started trending on Twitter.
Some Twitter users have used the power outage in the city of Mumbai and its suburban areas to show how consistent the city’s electricity supply has been over the years. Others laughed at memes and political comments.

The power supply, cut off at 10:05 am, should be restored in 45 minutes to an hour for the metropolis, authorities said.
“Due to a technical issue on circuit 2 of the Kalva-Padghe power plant, the areas between Thane and Mumbai are facing a power outage. Our staff are working on it and power will be restored within an hour or 45 minutes. Maharashtra Minister of Energy Dit Nitin Raut said.
Delighted with the large-scale and unprecedented blackout that even interrupted Mumbai’s rail service – first interrupted during the national coronavirus lockdown – people rejoiced that those who work and study from home amidst the pandemic can take a break.

Adani Electricity, a major electricity supplier in the city, said it “currently provides essential services in Mumbai”. Several operators, including BEST, Adani Electricity and Tata Power, run by the state, supply the city.
The power outage also left posh areas of southern Mumbai without comforts, with residents of the city’s suburban areas – where power disruptions are common – sharing their glee at the situation.
