Bombay:

Large parts of Mumbai and its suburbs are facing a power outage, as a result of which several trains have been stranded. The blackout, according to the city’s electricity board, was due to “TATA’s incoming power failure.” Traffic lights in some areas have also stopped working.

Western Railway said the outage was due to a grid outage at Tata Power.

Such a large-scale blackout is unprecedented for the metropolis. The power supply, cut at 10:05 am, should be restored in 45 minutes to an hour, authorities said.

“The power supply is interrupted due to an incoming power failure from TATA. The inconvenience is unfortunate,” Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) tweeted.

Several commuter trains on the central line and the west line have been suspended.

“Mumbai’s commuter trains on CR have been blocked due to a network outage. We will update as soon as possible. Please support us,” Central Railways tweeted.

Within minutes of the blackout, people took to social media. Hashtags such as #powercut, #Mumbai, and #poweroutage have started trending on Twitter.

“Is everyone’s electricity gone ?! I… what’s going on? #Mumbai,” one user tweeted.

Another user wrote: “Wow, all of Mumbai has a power cut and suddenly no one can take it anymore.”

Some were ignorant with a sudden breakdown. “Is it like a citywide powercut? #Mumbai #electricity,” one tweet read.
