Bombay:

A man allegedly threw acid at a woman and attempted to burn her alive with gasoline in the Neknoor neighborhood of Beed district, police said on Sunday.

Police say the incident took place on November 13, after which the woman was admitted to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Maharashtra’s Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh learned of the case and issued instructions for the case to be tried by a fast-track court. He also informed that the accused had been arrested in the case.

Police had previously registered an FIR in the case under relevant sections of the Indian Criminal Code and deployed a team to investigate the case.

“The accused has been arrested. Instructions have been given for the case to be tried by a fast-track court so that the culprits are punished in the most severe way. I am personally reviewing the case,” Mr. Deshmukh tweeted.
