Calcutta:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday and said he should remain within the mandate of the Constitution, expressing anguish over his letter to the Chief of Police of State about the situation of law and order.

In a nine-page letter, Ms Banerjee said that the governor’s reproaches unfortunately consist of unsubstantiated judgments and innuendos against the police and the state government.

“I was extremely upset, distressed and disillusioned to read your captioned letter and the note to the Director General of Police which was placed in front of me, as well as to see your Twitter post about it,” he said. she declared.

“In accordance with article 163, you are mandated to act in accordance with the assistance and advice of your Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers, which is the very essence of our democracy. I am writing to you therefore to express to you my deep pain and my anguish at the excess and a blatant attempt to usurp constitutional mandates and unjustified excesses on your part, ”she wrote.

Jagdeep Dhankhar wrote to DGP Virendra earlier this month, expressing concern over the state of law and order in the state.

After a two-line response from the DGP, Mr. Dhankhar asked the state police chief to meet with him before September 26 to give him details of the “alarming decline in law and order” and the necessary steps to tone it.

In her letter, Ms. Banerjee said the governor was an executive candidate for the president while “I am the elected representative of the people of West Bengal”.

“… I ask you, help you and advise you as Chief Minister of this State, to act within the framework of the mandates of the Constitution and to refrain from acting on a political mandate, if necessary to destabilize a democratically elected government, ”she told me.

“… refrain from surpassing the Chief Minister and her Council of Ministers and from communicating with and dictating to state officials, beyond your powers under the Constitution and ordering them to run before you, ”she added.
