New Delhi:

The railways have sent a circular to their areas to guarantee 100% punctuality in the circulation of 230 special trains, less than 2% of the 13,000 trains that normally run on the rail network.

Sources said the chairman of the railway council, VK Yadav, had sent a message to all general managers and branch managers of the railways to ensure that the 15 pairs of Rajdhani special trains and the 100 pairs passenger trains maintain their schedule without any delay.

He asked area managers to monitor the punctuality of these trains, adding that the number of trains running on the network is currently low, so punctuality must be “100%”.

The sources said that the national carrier, which has been criticized for delays in the running of these trains, wishes to be extremely vigilant in the operation of these trains.

Mr. Yadav also asked the seven rail zones – East Coast Railway, South East Central Railway, East Central Railway, Central Railway, West Central Railway, North Central Railway and Northern Railway – to identify the problems resulting in loss of punctuality and take corrective action. .

These are the areas in which the bulk of freight train loading takes place. Most freight trains also operate in these areas.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) loaded 200.85 tonnes of freight in 2019-2020, the largest of the rail areas, followed by the South Eastern Railway (SER) which carried 171.11 tonnes, the South East Central Railway (SECR) 169 tonnes and the East Central Railway (ECR) transported 148 MT of freight during the 2019-2020 fiscal year.

The railways have faced major problems with the operation of the Shramik Special trains.

According to sources, 50% of these trains were running two hours late, just at the origin stations, due to the protocols involved. They said that the protocol prescribed for coronaviruses as the thermal screening of each passenger to ensure that only asymptomatic people get on the trains, preserving social distance, ensuring that the Aarogya Setu mobile application is downloaded on their telephones – takes a long time in original stations. The railways had recently called on all passengers to get to the station 90 minutes in advance and at the earliest to avoid overcrowding.
