Bombay:

In a great relief for the employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), the state government on Monday decided to pay their outstanding salaries for two months before the Diwali festival, starting at the end of the week. .

Employees of MSRTC, which is one of the county’s largest trucking companies with a fleet of more than 18,000 buses, have not received their wages in the past three months due to the shutdown of services during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Minister of State for Transport Anil Parab, who is also chairman of the MSRTC, said employee salaries for a one-month period as well as the Diwali advance to eligible employees would be disbursed today (Monday).

“The salary for an additional month will be settled before the Diwali festival,” he said.

He said a request has been made to the state government to pay the salaries of MSRTC employees for the next few months.

Mr Parab also called on employees not to take extreme measures like suicide. The MSRTC suffered losses as its revenue in the form of passenger fares was affected due to the lockdown.

Recently, services have resumed with greater capacity.
