Deputy Stalin wrote to US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in Tamil on Monday.

DMK Chairman MK Stalin wrote to US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in Tamil on Monday recalling her ties to Tamil Nadu and said he was convinced she would bring more laurels to America during her tenure.

Wishing and greeting her with “ Vanakkam, ” MP Stalin said it was a matter of pride for the people of the state that the first female U.S. vice president had a connection to Tamil Nadu then that his mother was from the state.

He said he chose to write in Tamil because it would bring him more happiness, the mother tongue of his mother Shymala Gopalan Harris.

His victory gave the Dravidian movement a sense of confidence, which believed in an egalitarian society and gender equality, he said in the letter, a copy of which was also posted on his Facebook page.

The DMK chief said Harris’ victory through hard work and her outlook proved that a woman of Tamil descent is qualified to rule even the United States of America.

“Let your tenure bring more laurels to America and herald the pride of Tamil heritage to the world,” he said, adding that Tamil Nadu looked forward to his visit.

He expressed his joy at her election and congratulated her on her victory.

The family of Kamala Harris’ mother, Shyamala Gopalan, is from Thulasenthirapuram and Painganadu in Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu.

On Sunday, the ancestral villages of Kamala Harris erupted in joy over the rise of the Democratic senator and ushered in an early Deepavali with firecrackers and candy to celebrate his victory.
