Madhya Pradesh student died by suicide after an alleged error in her score on the national entrance test for medical schools, NEET, revealed that she scored 6 out of 720 when she was in fact enough passed the exam, police said.

Police say the teenager from Chhindwara District in Madhya Pradesh was shot dead after checking her NEET score on the website. The victim reportedly saw six digits in front of his name on the list. Disappointed, the girl would have taken the plunge, said police.

Shocked that their daughter did not do well on the exam, the academic girl’s parents later sent in her answer sheet for reassessment, police said, adding that it gave her a significantly higher score. high – a score that could have saved his life. .

“Her OMR sheet (answer sheet) for NEET was reassessed, and it showed the girl had obtained 590 points,” Inspector Sumer Singh said.

She wanted to become a doctor so that she could treat the poor, her parents said.

Each year, many students end their own life due to the perceived pressure to sit for the highly competitive national tests for admission to engineering and medical colleges across the country.

This year, the National Entrance Eligibility Test or NEET was conducted on September 13 amid the coronavirus pandemic and in the shadow of flooding in several states. Of the 15.97 lakh candidates who registered, about 88% took the exam.
