New Delhi:

The Law Enforcement Department (ED) has filed a complaint against a Mohali-based company and its administrators for money laundering linked to an alleged possession of government seals and stamps, the agency said on Thursday. .

The complaint (accusation) was brought before a special court of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) in Punjab against the firm Seabird International Pvt Ltd and its directors Pirtpal Singh and Gurinder Singh.

The federal investigative agency had attached assets worth 6.93 crore rupees in the past, it said in a statement.

The ED filed a PMLA complaint against the accused after examining two first Mohali police information reports (FIR) recorded in 2017 for alleged possession of counterfeit seals and stamps from government agencies and one for alleged possession of a replica handgun made in Germany.

It was found that the directors – Pirtpal Singh and Gurinder Singh – were in the habit of forging educational and financial documents of visa applicants to meet the required standards established by foreign institutions and, later, the same were to be submitted to foreign embassies for granting visas, the ED alleged.

“The investigation revealed that fixed deposits from different banks, educational documents, farm income certificates and identity documents such as identity documents believed to have been issued by different Punjab tax authorities, which were subjected to foreign embassies for the granting of visas to the students, were false and falsified “, affirmed the agency.

The accused, he alleged, used this modus operandi and generated proceeds of crime amounting to Rs 7,56,40,000 and acquired movable and immovable property and was charged with money laundering silver. The investigation into the case is underway, he said.
