New Delhi:

Chief Congressman Kapil Sibal on Friday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “flaunting” his friendship with US President Donald Trump for his remark that “India sent dirty air.”

Mr Sibal said the jibe was the result of the Howdy Modi event held in Texas in 2019.

Trump: Fruits of Friendship: Calls into question India’s COVID-19 death toll. Says India sends dirt into the air India ‘the air is dirty’. Called the India “king of tariffs.” “Howdy Modi” result, ”Mr Sibal tweeted.

Another party leader, Anand Sharma, said: “President Donald Trump has insulted ‘Namaste India’ and denounced his lack of knowledge on climate change and the Paris Agreement.”

“Fact check told him the United States is the biggest polluter in history and their per capita greenhouse gas emissions are six times higher than India’s ‘dirty air’ “said the former foreign minister.

Trump accused China, India and Russia of failing to take care of their “dirty air” as he justified America’s withdrawal from the “unfair” Paris climate deal.

Trump, a known climate change skeptic, wants to develop non-renewable energy. It aims to increase oil and gas drilling and further reduce environmental protection in America.

“Look at China, how dirty. Look at Russia. Look at India, it’s dirty. The air is dirty,” Trump said during the last presidential debate with his Democratic challenger Joe Biden in Nashville, Tennessee Thursday evening.
