New Delhi:

Former trade union minister P Chidambaram said on Saturday that opposition parties must believe that the Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party can be defeated and that Bihar’s upcoming polls would prove the same.

Referring to the Assembly elections and by-elections held in the country since the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress leader pointed out that the BJP’s winning percentage has dropped significantly.

“381 segments of the State Assembly have had Assembly elections (330) or Assembly by-elections (51) since the 2019 elections in Lok Sabha, where there were BJP candidates . In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidates won 319 of those 381 assembly segments. In elections or by-elections in these segments since 2019, BJP candidates have won only 163 segments. out of 381, ”Mr. Chidambaram said.

“Who says the BJP cannot be defeated? Opposition parties have to believe they can defeat the BJP. I hope this will be proven in Bihar,” the leader added.

Congress, CPI, CPM are part of the “Mahagathbandhan” (great alliance) under the leadership of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The first phase of voting in Bihar ended on October 28, while the remaining two phases of the ballot are scheduled to take place on November 3 and 7. The counting of the votes will take place on November 10.
