The Indian naval vessel INS Jalashwa will depart from the port of Colombo on Friday with around 700 Indian nationals, who have been stranded due to travel restrictions linked to Covid, as part of the second phase of Operation Samudra Setu in as part of the “Vande Bharat” mission.

INS Jalashwa arrived at anchor last night alongside a berth in the port of Malé, Maldives.

On June 1, the ship repatriated approximately 700 Indians from Colombo in Sri Lanka to Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. This is the third trip to the Maldives by INS Jalashwa.

The rescue mission is part of Operation “Samudra Setu” as part of the Vande Bharat mission, which has so far facilitated the evacuation of 1,286 people from Male twice on May 8 and 16.

As part of the second phase of the naval repatriation mission, INS Jalashwa with its base in Visakhapatnam would go for evacuation to Bandar Abbas (Iran) after Male.
