Mentally ill man jumped into tiger enclosure at zoo (representational)

Aurangabad:

A mentally ill man jumped into a tiger enclosure at a zoo in the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra on Tuesday morning, but was rescued in time by guards, an official said.

The 30-year-old jumped from the perimeter wall at the back of Siddharth Zoo and made his way to the central area of the big cat’s enclosure, said the city official.

No one has seen him climb the compound wall, which has broken pieces of glass encrusted at the top, and jump into the compound, the official said.

“We spotted him in the service area of the compound on Tuesday morning, after which the zoo guards rescued him and handed him over to the police.

“The pieces of glass on the wall have become blunt due to the passage of time, and we plan to close this part of the wall soon,” said the official.

An official from the Kranti Chowk police station said that the man, who appeared to be mentally ill, had been handed over to his family.
